The Seniors’ Walking Games Have a Track Record

The Seniors’ Walking Games

Dear Source:

First, I would like to express a heartfelt gratitude to the sponsors and volunteers for their contributions to the success of this year’s senior walking events.

Thanks to the computer-generated time recording, supplied by the VI Track and Field Federation, making each of us official, track-timed record holders. Our ages spanned four age groups, 50 to 74 years, and we invite the rest of the world to challenge our times.

Our fundraising caused the upgrading of The Estate Adventure Nature Trail to be accessible for those with disabilities. (The funding for the establishment of The Estate Adventure Nature Trail was through the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act.)

To enhance the options and the opportunities for our top athletes to be able to travel abroad, to train and to compete in some of the qualifying meets throughout the year.

The seniors’ walking competition is an excellent venue to encourage walking for a healthier lifestyle for seniors over 50, and to promote the goals of both nonprofit organizations. The Games Will Only Grow Bigger, Bigger and Bigger with Nurturing Sponsorship!

I have been asked, am I planning for next year? The challenges faced, last year the hurricanes, this year the primaries, general and the run-off elections will not be a factor next year. But, if just a third of those who responded with interest, there would have been more senior citizens present, especially those needing rides in nursing homes.

Studies have shown that a person’s life expectancy can be measured by the length of their stride. The elders didn’t walk for an exercise, walking for them was their way of life!

Can you imagine the encouragement it would be for seniors seeing others their ages and older to changing their life-style?

But instead of…, Crickets!

If the support is not there for next year, I will go on-line and post that the Senior’s Walking Games is looking for a New Home, but then again, “There Is No Place Like Home.”
