Joseph Hanley, 60, who has been wanted on a charge of rape that took place in Christiansted in 1999, was arrested Friday by members of the Criminal Investigation Bureau Detectives after he was detained at the Montgomery County Detention Center in Maryland.
According to the V.I. Police Department, Hanley was arrested on a warrant issued in 2004 by the Superior Court.
Hanley was charged with the crimes of incest, first–degree aggravated rape, and first-degree rape. Bail was set at $250,000, Hanley was remanded to Golden Grove Detection Facility pending advice of rights hearing.
The police report said Hanley’s arrest came about as the result of the National Crime Information Center. The NCIC is the United States’ central database for tracking crime-related information. It is maintained by the Criminal Justice Information Services Division of the FBI and is interlinked with federal, tribal, state, and local agencies and offices that consists of criminal files.
