Police Identify 71-Year-Old Shooting Victim

A 71-year-old man was found dead in his apartment Sunday afternoon, dead of a gunshot wound to the body, the V.I. Police Department reported.

The deceased was identified by next of kin as Thomas Willie.

According to police, 911 received a call at 1:06 p.m. Sunday reporting that a foul odor was coming from a residence in Estate Thomas. The Major Crime Unit responded and found an unresponsive black male sitting in a chair.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased had what appeared to be a gunshot to the body.

The Major Crime Unit is investigating the case as a homicide, according to police.

The VIPD urged anyone with information about the death to call the department at 340-774-2211, the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 340-714-9807, the 911 call center or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, 1-800-222-8477.
