Senior marine biology major Nyaila Callwood will premiere her first stage play, “Phenomenally” on Thursday in the Little Theater at the University of the Virgin Islands St. Thomas campus.
The play is inspired by the poem “Phenomenal Woman” by poet Maya Angelou, and follows the story of four best friends as they develop into confident and phenomenal women. Through the use of music and poetry, the play explores topics such as family, relationships, identity, confidence, and unapologetic self-love.
“I wrote this play to give a voice to the women who feel they cannot be themselves. By telling their story, I hope the play will make others feel empowered to go for what they want.” Callwood said.
The show will run at 7 p.m. from Thursday through Saturday, with a 4 p.m. performance Sunday, April 22.
The public also can listen to the show on WUVI 97.3 F.M.
