Sharon M. Brown Dies at 65

Sharon M. Brown

Sharon M. Brown of Hannah’s Rest died on March 31 at age 65. She was a beloved educator of 34 years and a cultural bearer.

She is survived by her daughters: Diane O. Brown, Diedra N. Brown-Tull and Delreese C. Brown; grandson, Kahlil B. Jennings; companion, James B. Nesbitt; sisters: Josephine B. Hector and Maria “Marie” Schuster; brother, Samuel “Sonny” Braffith; sisters-in-law: Doris Brown, Jewel Brown-Thompson, Judith Brown-Thompson, Lynell Amory and Melba Joseph; brothers-in-law: Albert Schuster, Rodney Pickering, Hubert Brown Sr., David Brown Sr., Edwin Brown, Bernard Brown Sr. and Arthur “Sonny T” Brown Jr.; son-in-law, Samuel R. Tull; special cousin and best friend, Dorene Christian; and nieces: Janine Hector, Michelle Schuster-Baiyee, Stacie Smith, Michelle Morales, Jocelyne and Amanda Braffith,  Kendra Moore, Disha Charles, Lila Payne-Shaffer, Ebony Christian, Karris and Lynell Amory, Shavonne Rodney, Avonne Thompson, Etta Lee Mitchell, Glendora and Glenis Pickering, Rhea Pickering, Cherese King, and many great-nieces too numerous to mention.

She is also survived by nephews: Michael Schuster, Clayton Braffith, Wayne and Kevin Emmanuel, Gene and Anselmo Braffith Jr., Deon Braffith, O’Neal Morris, Gregory Bennerson Jr., Robert and Lionel Christian, Najeeb and DeAndre Amory, Norbert Pickering Jr., Bernard Brown, Dushane Brown, Troy and Gilmore Thompson Jr. and many great-nephews too numerous to mention; godchildren: Kendra Moore, Xiamara Gomez, Trisha Williams, Richard “Richie” Samuel, Jeanette Christian-Cobb, Jahnailah Morris, RiShawn Henry, Jamie Colbert, Jermaine Sealey, and many others too numerous to mention; and cousins and other family members: the Brannigan, Ballentine, Williams, Fredericks, Wilson, Balfour, Edwards, Edney, Milligan, Messer, Petersen, Knight, Richardson, Brewster, Herbert, Greenidge, Russell and Doute-Charles families, and the descendants of Olivia Henry.

Other survivors include close friends: Eleanor Sealey and family, Noeleen Christian and family, Denise Christian and family, Gwendolyn Lucas, Patricia Williams and family, Delroy and Glenis Thomas, Rueben Gomez and family, Norman Edwards Jr., Khadija and Sydeajah Francois, Ione Brown, Lucia Warner, Ralph Soodeen and family, the family of Linda Colon, the faculty and staff of Evelyn Williams Elementary School, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, American Red Cross – St. Croix Chapter, West End Masqueraders, V.I. Agriculture and Food Fair Board of Directors, AgFair Food and Refreshment Vendors, Department of Agriculture staff, CHANT, CHS Class of 1970, St. Croix Community Theater and the Barren Spot Fun Club.

A viewing will take place at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 10 a.m., Saturday April 14, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Frederiksted. Interment will be at Frederiksted Cemetery.
