Easter Sunday was filled with grace and fashion at the University of the Virgin Islands as the Student Government Association’s Queens Committee held its first fashion show in the school’s Sports and Fitness Center.
Students practiced for weeks in order to gracefully model styles from local retailers and designers Body Glove, M.I.S.T (Made in St. Thomas), Sole to Soul, Posh Boutique, Kiaun’s Customs, Kandy’s Fashion, Just Me Fashion, La Gab, V.I. Bridal and Tuxedo, Aremas Collection and Men’s Corner.
Several special presentations were made throughout the night in addition to the local fashions on display, including a showcase of the costumes for the revived UVI Carnival Troupe, a showing of designs made out of recycled materials, an introduction for Bossy Virgins, a company providing social and vocational services for the youth and the elderly, and a raffle for items donated to the Queens Committee by Island Fashionista.
The Queens Committee is responsible for the planning and implementation of the Miss UVI Ambassadorial Competition. This year the responsibility was taken on by the St. Croix campus due to the damages suffered by the St. Thomas campus during September’s back-to-back hurricanes.
The Queens Committee also puts on smaller shows and presentations aimed at fundraising for Miss UVI and engaging the student body and the community.
The grand finale of Sunday’s fashion show featured a simulated wedding where some of V.I. Bridal’s best wedding gown, tuxedos and bridesmaid dresses were on display.
