Devon Davis, 27, of St. Thomas, pleaded guilty Monday in District Court to one count of conspiracy to commit Hobbs Act robbery, U.S. Attorney Gretchen C.F. Shappert, announced.
Davis was the last of seven men charged with the Hobbs Act robbery of the Gems and Gold Corner jewelry store on St. Thomas.
Davis faces up to 20 years in prison on the conspiracy count. Judge Curtis V. Gomez remanded Davis into the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending his sentencing on July 5.
A federal grand jury returned a three-count indictment on On Nov. 16, 2017, resulting from an investigation into the Hobbs Act robbery of Gems and Gold Corner jewelry store on St. Thomas on Sept. 16, 2013. According to the indictment, Davis was a member of the robbery crew that conspired to rob the store. Davis’ co-conspirators entered the store and brandished a handgun to threaten the storeowner before fleeing with merchandise. Davis drove the getaway vehicle.
Other members of the conspiracy, Ron Delano Kuntz, 42, Keon Wilson, 22, Shawn McIntosh, 24, Shaquille Correa, 22, Jarmaine Ayala, 36, and Wahilli James, 21, have all been convicted and remain in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending their sentencing in May.
This case is a result of an investigation by the FBI and the Virgin Islands Police Department and was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Anna A. Vlasova and Kim L. Chisholm.
