On Monday, Nov. 27, the Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority (WAPA) published an electrical restoration schedule for the next two weeks detailing areas where crews will be restoring service.
With additional manpower and equipment on-island and additional shipments of materials and supplies expected in both districts, WAPA remains committed to its previously stated goal of energizing 90 percent of all areas by Dec. 25.
The ten percent that will not be energized by that time will represent those customers who simply cannot be restored due to structural damage to their homes or businesses, those who have opted not to rebuild, or those who have relocated from the Virgin Islands.
Both this week and next week, crews will work in areas including:
o Frederiksted, St. Croix: Fisher Street, Hospital Street, King Cross Street, Little Hospital Street, North Street and Strand Street. In Christiansted: Altona, Boetzberg, D.C. Canegata Ballpark and Recreational Center, Eliza’s Retreat, Mount Welcome, Orange Grove, Estate Richmond, St. Peter’s, Stoney Ground Villas and Western Suburb
o On St. John: Coral Bay and Estate Enighed
- On St. Thomas: Fortuna, Crown and Hawk, Lindbergh Bay, Contant, Caret Bay, Bonne Resolution, Prindsens Gade, Taarneberg, Sub Base, Altona and Welgunst, Nye Gade, Norre Gade, Water Island, Wintberg, Mandahl, Hidden Valley, Anna’s Retreat, Tutu Hi Rise (turnkey), Tabor and Harmony, Smith Bay, Sapphire Village, Mariendah, Bovoni, Bolongo and Frenchman’s Bay.
Work will continue in all areas until restoration to all customers who can be reconnected is achieved. Customers with temporary or blue roofs are reminded they are eligible to have service restored once a licensed electrician certifies in writing that their structure is safe to reenergize.
If an electric meter was removed by WAPA personnel to facilitate repairs to either a meter base and/or weather head, once repairs are completed and a licensed electrician certifies the work in writing, customers are required to notify the Customer Service Office. Customer Service Offices operate 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, at Sunny Isle on St. Croix and Port of Sale Mall on St. Thomas.
All fees usually associated with meter removal and reconnection have been waived during this restoration period.
Specific questions about the restoration of electrical service should be directed to WAPA’s Emergency Call Centers on St. Thomas and St. Croix. The centers operate seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. On St. Thomas – St. John – Water Island, call 774-1424; on St. Croix, call 773-0150.
