DHS Office of Child Care and Regulatory Services Gives Update

V.I. Department of Human Services

The Virgin Islands Department of Human Services (DHS) advises the public that the Office of Child Care and Regulatory Services (OCCRS) in the St. Croix district is temporarily located within the Office of the Commissioner at 3011 Estate Golden Rock. The OCCRS is working to ensure its mandated responsibilities are met as a part of the department’s overall recovery efforts.

Specifically, the OCCRS has developed a plan to initiate its Child Care Program fully.  To that end, licensing specialists are currently inspecting child care facilities or centers on St. Croix to ascertain levels of compliance.  Additionally, the staff is meeting with child care center directors and/or their representatives on the viability of the centers and their capacities to operate.  This inspection also considers disaster damages as well as the safety and health of the children who are enrolled.

Regrettably, the OCCRS is unable to issue childcare vouchers to those who are seeking assistance. Technical and other logistical difficulties have temporarily impeded these opportunities. The public will receive further updates on the program as they become available.
