Car Accident Cuts Power to 850 In Coakley Bay

A car accident affected a utility pole in Coakley Bay, cutting electricity to more than 200 St. Croix residents Sunday night, according to the V.I. Water and Power Authority.

Shortly after midnight, WAPA sent out a notice saying a new pole must be installed followed by the relocation of lines, transformers and other hardware to the new pole. This work could last into early Monday morning. WAPA crews are deployed and will begin repair and restoration work once the accident scene has been cleared, according to the utility.

Roughly 850 customers are affected by the electrical service interruption on a portion of a major St. Croix feeder. Affected areas include: Cotton Valley, Estate Hope, Estate Carlton, Pleasant Valley, Green Cay, Coakley Bay, Yellow Cliff 27, South Slob, Catherine’s Hope, Cotton Grove and Seven Flags.
