Police early Tuesday morning arrested a man suspected in a domestic violence assault that took place the day before.
V.I. Police Department officers arrested 27-year-old Zayvon Acoy at 12:09 a.m. Tuesday and charged him with assaulting his girlfriend, a 17-year-old minor.
According to police, at 3:15 p.m. Monday officers were dispatched to a disturbance at a residence in Peters Rest. At the scene, the female minor and her mother told officers that the girl had gotten into an argument over her cell phone with her 27-year-old boyfriend, identified as Acoy.
The suspect started choking her and physically assaulted her, the police were told. The suspect fled the area when the victim attempted to call 911.
Acoy also took personal electronic items and cash from the victim’s bedroom before he fled the area, police were told.
The victim was transported to the Juan F. Luis Hospital by private vehicle and was admitted for treatment.
Acoy is charged with simple assault and battery/domestic violence, disturbing the peace by fighting, petit larceny, second-degree rape, and second-degree unlawful sexual contact/domestic violence.
No bail was set as per the domestic violence statute. Acoy was remanded to the Golden Grove Detention Center pending his advice of rights hearing.
The assault is wrong.
Nothing else is to be said when the mom condones this man (27) being involved with her daughter (17). There is nothing the Women’s Coalition can do.
I am parent and would question the level of sanity for any mother to allow a 27 year old MAN to be dating a 17 year old GIRL. Unbelievable and downright shameful. How can a mother condone such an illegal relationship is beyond my ability to comprehend. I am also questioning who is the adult in the home–mother or the daughter. Let me state clearly that there is no excuse for the assault of any kind on the teenage daughter.
