Flood Advisory Issued for St. Croix

The National Weather Service issued a flood advisory for St. Croix Sunday night in response to a tropical wave moving past the island.

The advisory, issued by the NWS office in San Juan, will be in effect until 10:45 p.m.

At 7:40 p.m. Doppler radar indicated an area of showers and thunderstorms moving over St Croix brought on by the tropical wave, which was moving rapidly westward across the Caribbean waters.

Persistent heavy rain is occurring with this area of storms. Excessive rainfall will likely result in urban areas and guts, with flooding in portions of the island.

Locations the weather service expects to experience flooding include Grove Place, Frederiksted South, Christiansted and Frederiksted.

Additional information on the storm and possible flooding can be found online at http://www.weather.gov.
