VI Cycling Federation Releases Results of Ride to the Rings Time Trial

Stephen Swanton riding in the Elite category

As part of a tribute to Olympic Month, the Virgin Islands Cycling Federation (VICF) held a 20K time trial event on St. Croix’s South Shore Road.  The weather was nearly perfect on the out-and-back course for the Ride to the Rings Time Trial.  The race organizers feel that the symbol of the Olympic rings brings together cyclists of all abilities and experience levels in one event.  In the spirit of the Olympic Movement, the VICF encourages a high level of support, fair play and friendship among its members.

The course started at the Cool Out Bar, turned around at Union/Mt. Washington and finished at the entrance to Ha’ penny Beach. All three racing categories covered the same distance, nearly 20K.  The race served as a good measure of fitness for those who are training with the intentions to represent the Virgin Islands in the Elite and Junior Caribbean Cycling Championships, which will be held in October and November, respectively.

Stephen Swanton knocked out the 12.2 miles (the actual distance) in 30:57 (30 min., 57 sec.) in the Elite category.  Glenn Massiah was second in 32:01 and Sue Brown was third in 33:27.

VICF will continue its tribute to Olympic Month with the Ride to The Rings Road Race.  The Elite race will begin at 6:30 a.m. at Kaleidoscope; all other categories will begin at 7 a.m.  The event is free and open to the public.
