St. Croix Visitor Drowns off Hotel on the Cay

A 54-year-old man visiting St. Croix from Wisconsin drowned Wednesday morning in Christiansted harbor off the Hotel on the Cay, the V.I. Police reported.

The victim was identified as Daniel Reardon, from Milwaukee.

At 10:49 a.m., the 911 emergency call center received a report of a drowning. Officers and emergency medical personnel arrived at the scene and interviewed the family members on the beach area, who stated that a current had swept them away while they were snorkeling.

Reardon did not make it back to shore. Citizens in the beach area out on jet skis and a boat assisted in locating the victim on the east side of the cay. He was transported by ambulance to the Juan .F .Luis Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
