UVI Holds Annual Service Awards on the 18 and 20 of April The Human Resources Department is having its 43rd Annual Service Awards on April 18 and 20 on the St. Thomas Campus and the Albert A. Sheen Campus, respectively.  Join the Human Resources staff as it recognizes employees during the 43rd Service Awards Ceremony. This year’s theme is “Resilient and Keen.”

          The ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. in the Sports and Fitness Center on April 18 on the St. Thomas Campus. The awards ceremony on the campus will follow at 2 p.m. in the Great Hall. A light fare-buffet will follow the ceremonies.

 5th Annual VICCC Symposium 2017 to be Held on April 24 The 5th Annual VICCC Symposium 2017 will take place April 24 on the Albert A. Sheen Campus on St. Croix. The theme is: “Culture. Heritage. Identity. VI Centennial and Beyond.”

Presentations will be made by UVI students and invited guests on Slave Wrecks Project, Education and Exhibitions. National Park Service St. Croix Exhibitions and Resources; VI Caribbean American Cultural Heritage Education Opportunities; Post-VI Centennial 2017 Initiatives; Literary Cultural Arts Presentations, and more. Global Leadership and Management Development Certificate Course Scholarship Opportunity Offered UVI is offering an intensive two-week course in Global Leadership and Management Development (GILMD). This 55-hour course is worth three-credit points, and participants will be awarded a certificate in Global Leadership and Management Development. They will also receive a certificate of participation for attending the International Conference on Leadership, Management and Strategic Development held at the beginning of the course. This special GILMD course is designed to provide training and education from a multi-discipline perspective to equip future and current leaders anywhere in the world who are passionate about making a difference in this dynamic global environment. 

          Students and employees in any area of the following disciplines will benefit from the course – business, education, engineering, liberal arts, social sciences, nursing, science, mathematics, psychology, tourism and hospitality, social work, public administration, communication, information technology, agribusiness, and others.  The course is currently listed on the University of the Virgin Islands Web site as BUS 400 for undergraduates and BUS 540 for graduate students.

Applications should be submitted on or before April 27.  (Applicants can receive a fee reduction scholarship of about $500-$750 depending on individual circumstances and GPA). Apply now to be considered for a fee reduction scholarship.  Participants may also qualify for UVI financial aid on UVI’s tuition remission to study the two-week GILMD Certificate Course this summer at the university’s St. Thomas Campus from May 23–June 6.

Youth Ocean Explorers Summer Program Applications Now Available The Youth Ocean Explorers Summer Program is now accepting applications. Applications for the four-week marine science-based summer program can be found on http://vimas.uvi.edu.

The program runs from July 10 – Aug. 4. Students’ in grades 7 through 12 with an interest in marine science or science in general are highly encouraged to apply.

Renewable Energy Training Prepares Individuals to Become Solar Energy Technicians       The NABCEP Solar Training program will be held 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, May 1, and will run through Friday, May 5, at the UVICELL Center on St. Thomas.  The UVICELL Center and Archibald Energy Group (AEG) LLC, an energy-consulting firm will be offering a 40-hour solar training program.  The entry-level program is ideal for individuals who are interested in learning more about the industry; it will provide a better understanding of renewable energy technologies and their long-term sustainability.

          To increase awareness of renewable energy and advance the territory’s agenda of promoting and improving energy efficiency, the UVICELL Center is collaborating with a local company to prepare the workforce for jobs in this emerging sector. 

          The training is vital for the territory to build and maintain the infrastructure to support clean energy.  Through hands-on, practical training, students enrolled in the course will learn how to safely install, operate, maintain and troubleshoot renewable energy systems. At the end of the course, participants will take the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) entry-level exam, which is the most recognized and esteemed certification for the solar industry.

2017 Noel-Levitz Student Satisfaction Survey Being Administered to All UVI Students The Office of Institutional Research and Planning announces the administration of the 2017 Noel-Levitz Student Satisfaction Inventory (SSI) Survey during the week of April 4-25.

          UVI has teamed up with Noel-Levitz to administer the SSI Survey, which evaluates student satisfaction and the importance of campus issues to students. UVI will benefit from the consulting and data services provided by the Noel-Levitz team to help identify the areas where UVI will need to focus, especially in the areas of student retention and improvement of enrollment goals. Student involvement, as well as involvement of the UVI community is critical to the success of this project and all UVI students are encouraged to complete the survey. Every UVI student will receive an e-mail containing a link to the online survey and instructions on how to complete the survey Completing the Noel-Levitz SSI Survey is strictly voluntary, and a student’s decision to participate or not will have no effect on his or her grades. The last administration of the Noel-Levitz SSI Survey was in March 2014.
