STX Man Charged with Rape, Domestic Violence

A woman’s scream in the night prompted a call to 911, which brought about the arrest Saturday morning of Steven E. Matta II, a 34-year-old St. Croix man, on charges of rape and domestic violence, the V.I. Police Department reported.

According to the police, at 11:16 p.m Friday the the 911 call center dispatched officers to Matta’s home, after someone in the neighborhood heard a woman screaming for help and called 911.

The victim said Matta had sexually assaulted her, punched her and slammed her to the ground.

Patrol officers located Matta at about 4:36 a.m. Saturday and immediately arrested him. Matta was processed and transported to the Golden Grove Detention Center, pending his advice of rights hearing.

Matta was charged with first-degree rape/domestic violence.
