Former Corrections Officer Sentenced for Providing Contraband in Prison

Chief District Court Judge Wilma A. Lewis on Monday sentenced Abdul Robinson, 39, a former corrections officer at the Golden Grove Adult Correctional Facility, to six months in prison for providing contraband in prison and one year in prison for the territorial offense of conflict of interest, acting U.S. Attorney Joycelyn Hewlett announced.

Lewis ordered Robinson to serve the one-year sentence after the six-month sentence, and also ordered him to serve one year of supervised release and pay a fine of $500 and a special assessment of $25.

According to Hewlett, on Sept. 20, 2016, Robinson pleaded guilty to providing contraband in prison and conflict of interest. According to documents filed in court, on April 5, 2013, Robinson received a cellular telephone along with $100 from an undercover agent and agreed to deliver the telephone to an inmate at Golden Grove. Robinson delivered the telephone inside the prison. At the time of the event, Robinson was employed as a corrections officer at the facility.

The case was investigated by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and the Federal Bureau of Investigations. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Alphonso G. Andrews Jr.
