Man Charged with Forgery, Unauthorized Weapon Possession

Police on Saturday arrested 23-year-old Jahmar Frederick of Estate St. John in Christiansted and charged him in a month-long investigation of forgery, the V.I. Police Department reported.

According to police, detectives from the VIPD Economic Crime Unit initiated an investigation on Feb. 3 into a report of an individual passing forged bills or notes. Their investigation determined that a suspect had committed the crime of passing forged bills by cashing several counterfeit checks, created with local businesses accurate account information, with forged signatures.

Saturday Economic Crime detectives, along with members of the Special Operations Bureau, executed an arrest warrant on Frederick and a search warrant at Estate St. John. The search resulted in the confiscation of a black XD-40 handgun, a concealable semi-automatic pistol.

Frederick was charged with obtaining money by false pretense, forgery, passing forged bills or notes, grand larceny, identity theft, unauthorized possession of a firearm and, unauthorized possession of ammunition. Bail was set at $75,000. Unable to post bail, Frederick was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advice of rights hearing.
