The St. Croix Track Club Mustangs competed well in Tortola, British Virgin Islands (BVI). Six athletes, who wanted to gain much needed experience, traveled to the competition. Those athletes were: Anelia Austrie, Mikaela Smith, Jusenia Tuitt, Brianna Bruce, Shakira Edgar and Layla Browne.
The team of Brianna Bruce, Anelia Austrie, Jusenia Tuitt and Mikaela Smith won the Under-18 Sprint Medley in a time of 4:30.10. Other top Mustang finishers: Layla Brown was 1st in shot put: 8.37m and 2nd in javelin: 26.54m; Shakera Edgar was 3rd in shot put: 7.61m and second in javelin: 18.04m; Mikaela Smith was 1st in 800m: 2:24.24sec. and 1st in 400m: 61.34; Jusenia Tuit was 3rd in 800m: 2:34.07sec. and 3rd in 400m: 66.31sec; Anelia Austrie was 2nd in 400m: 65.32sec and 4th in 200m: 27.08sec.
The most outstanding athlete was Mikaela Smith, who placed 1st in both of her events and ran on the winning Sprint Medley team. Keith Smith said he was extremely proud of the young athletes and their mental fortitude to compete well on the same afternoon they traveled to Tortola.
