Traffic Stop Results in Firearm Arrest

A routine traffic stop Tuesday morning resulted in the arrest of a St. Croix man on charges of illegal possession of a firearm and a controlled substance.

According to the V.I. Police Department, at about 10:27 a.m. Tuesday, officers on patrol saw a vehicle with two different license plates. The police unit followed the vehicle on Midland Road in the vicinity of Morgan’s Enterprise in Estate Glynn.

The officers pulled over the vehicle and asked the driver for his vehicle registration and driver’s license. The driver opened his glove box and the officer said he saw what appeared to be a green leafy substance that was later determined to be marijuana.

The officers then conducted a search and allegedly discovered a black ammunition magazine with 12 rounds and a firearm in the driver’s right front pocket.

The driver, identified by police as 21-year-old Emile Brin, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to report a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and possession or sale of ammunition.

He was remanded to the Golden Grove Detention Facility pending his advice of rights hearing.
