Wendell Delano Thomas Sr. Dies at 69

Wendell Delano Thomas Sr.Wendell Delano Thomas Sr. died on Sunday, Jan. 15, at the age of 69.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Theresa M. Hendrickson Thomas; his three children: Darius George Sr., Wendell D. Thomas Jr., and J’Ada M. Thomas; adopted daughter, Delores “Samantha” English-Edwards; adopted grandson: John E. Crump Jr.; aunts: Kathleen Rodgers and Regina Daniel; brothers: Fred A., Delroy and Lloyd “Pedico” Thomas; sister, Ramona Rodgers Faoye; and sisters-in-law: Adelle Hendrickson Lawrence, Alice P. Roach, Glenice Williams Thomas, Myrna P. Payne, Annette Eastman, Mercedes Eastman, Juanita Eastman Joseph, Bernice Thomas, Velma Thomas and Loretta Hendricks Thomas; brothers-in-law: Roy Rodgers and Wayne Payne.

He is also survived by nephews: Fred Jr., Angus B., Lowell Jr., Louis, Akeem and Lowell A. D. Thomas, Owen George, Eustace Roach, Kareem Parris, Roolston and Rahsan Gumbs, Femi Faoye, Dimitri Joseph and Khalid Edwards; nieces: Adnil Clarke, Sharon Danielson, Tiffany Roberts, Gail McKee, Sonya and Mahalia Thomas, Michelle Thomas-Monelle, Palmira Wahkisi, Angela Lawrence, Deborah Rodgers, Ayanna Payne-Irwin, Shevon Johnson and Maria Edwards.

Funeral arrangements are by James Memorial Funeral Home Inc.

A viewing will take place at 9:30 a.m. followed by a funeral service on Friday, Feb. 3, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Interment will be at Kingshill Cemetery, Veterans Section.
