The shelter, which is run by the Catholic Charities of the Virgin Islands, a non-profit organization, which is a 30-day alcohol and drug-free facility that protects struggling families and individuals from homelessness.

The 32nd Legislature’s donations were funded by its staff and other employees exclusively and was done in keeping with the shelter’s schedule for giving out during the shelter’s annual “count” of its occupants.

Brenda Charles, a staff member at the shelter, thanked the 32nd Legislature for its generosity and said that the 26 occupants that include single family, married couples with children and singles will surely be pleased with their care packages.

Charles also said the shelter received donations from the community as well as grants from the V.I. Department of Human Services along with federal grants.

Catholic Charities’ mission is to reduce poverty, strengthen families and empower communities.
