Officers on mobile patrol early Sunday morning noticed a vehicle stopped on the side of Northside Road in Golden Rock and their investigation resulted in the arrest of a man on charges of narcotics and weapons possession.
According to the police, at about 3:50 a.m. Sunday the officers realized the vehicle, parked in the vicinity of the District Court, was idling. Shining their flashlights into the stopped vehicle, they realized the driver was sleeping.
When the window was rolled down, officers detected a strong odor of marijuana emanating from inside the vehicle, the police said. The officers at that same time took notice of what appeared to be remnants of marijuana on the driver’s lap and some blend in the center console.
The driver was asked to exit the vehicle which he did. Asked by officers if he had anything else in the vehicle that would be of concern, the driver replied, "No, you could search.”
The search discovered a white substance, which appeared to be cocaine, and a small caliber weapon inside the vehicle.
Police identified the driver as 32- year-old Charles Richards Jr. He was secured without incident and charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm and remanded to the Bureau of Corrections Detention Center pending advice of rights hearing.
