Antonio Sanes Carmona, 45, of St. Croix pleaded guilty Wednesday before U.S. Magistrate Judge George Cannon Jr. to possession of child pornography, U.S. Attorney Ronald W. Sharpe announced.
Sentencing is scheduled for April 20.
According to the plea agreement filed with the court, on Aug. 17, Carmona was part of a peer-to-peer network on the Internet where he used his desktop computer to possess 51 images of child pornography. The images showed minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct with adults and other minors, Sharpe said.
Carmona faces a term of imprisonment of not more than 10 years and a fine of not more than $250,000. He has been detained since Aug. 19.
The case was investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Rhonda Williams-Henry.
