Police arrested 53-year-old Festus Pemberton Wednesday after witnesses identified him as the person who fired at another person in Gallows Bay that morning.
No one was injured in the incident, according to the V.I. Police Department.
At about 11:08 a.m., the 911 call center dispatched officers to a report of gunshots in the St. Croix Marina area in Gallows Bay. The dispatcher relayed that the suspect had left the scene operating a black GMC truck. An officer in the vicinity radioed back that she was driving behind that and immediately conducted a traffic stop.
Officers arrived at the traffic stop scene and saw Pemberton standing to the rear of the vehicle. He was detained and placed in the back seat of a marked police unit without incident.
According to police, during a verbal altercation Pemberton fired his weapon in the direction of the victim, but the victim was not injured.
Pemberton was arrested and charged with first-degree assault. He was remanded to Golden Grove Detention Center pending his advise of right’s hearing.
