The V.I. Water and Power Authority is working to restore power to St. Thomas and St. John, as of 7 p.m. Friday.
Shortly after 5 pm, WAPA’s largest generator, Unit 23, tripped off line causing a service interruption to nine feeders. With limited generation capacity provided by two other generators, Units 25 and 18, the remaining feeders remain off line and it is likely that full restoration will not occur until Unit 23 is back in service later tonight. While plant personnel are working to restore Unit 23, they will make a determination as to what caused the unit to fail, according to WAPA. Two other units at the Harley power plant, Units 14 and 15, are unavailable due to conversion and maintenance protocols.
At 7 p.m., four of the nine feeders which experienced a service interruption late Friday afternoon have been restored as well as a portion of St. John, according to WAPA.
