Gross Receipts Tax Amnesty Still in Effect Until Jan. 3

The Gross Receipts Tax Amnesty, signed into law by Gov. Kenneth E. Mapp on Oct. 6, 2016 (Act No. 7930), is still in effect but will end on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017.

All outstanding gross receipts tax obligations up to the August 2016 Monthly Gross Receipts Tax Return, and the Annual 2015 Gross Receipts Tax Return are part of the amnesty program. Taxpayers are urged to pay the taxes owed, and the interest and penalties will be abated under this program, according to a press release issued Monday by the Virgin Islands Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR).

Payments under the amnesty program should be made by cash, credit card (Visa or Mastercard), bank checks or money orders. Director of the BIR Marvin L. Pickering has explained that due to a concern about dishonored checks, BIR is taking this precaution to ensure that all payments accepted under the amnesty program will be honored by the bank.
