On Nov. 3, Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital and Medical Center (JFL) hosted Rotary’s District Governor Haresh L. Ramchandani, along with members from the local Rotary Mid-Isle Club. The Rotary had renovated JFL’s Emergency Department’s family room by donating the furniture, re-painting the room and providing wall art. They presented the completed room to JFL officials and the hospital’s executive team applauded their effort, thanking Rotary for its ongoing support.
“I want to extend sincere appreciation to the Rotary Mid-Isle team for fostering this collaboration with JFL so we may improve the patient experience here at our hospital,” said JFL Acting Chief Nursing Officer Jacintha Stephen. “This renovation helps to ensure that our patients and guests have a comfortable visit despite what may be a difficult time,” she said.
District Governor Ramchandani is in the territory this week to meet with the local Rotary clubs and observe the work they have been doing within the community. Rotary Mid-Isle has supported JFL this year, first with the recent renovation of the family room and then by paying for the installation of a HEPA air purification system in the Emergency Department waiting area purchased by JFL. This filtration system greatly improves the air quality.
The Rotarians also presented hospital officials with three care packages for patients on the medical unit. The care packages consisted of toiletries, Q-tips, washcloths, toothbrushes and other gifts to ensure a comfortable stay. “Rotary Club of St. Croix Mid-Isle came, saw the needs of the hospital, and fulfilled them,” said Dominique Francois, Rotary Mid-Isle president. “Our focus is service, and helping JFL helps the community.”
Officials from Rotary Mid-Isle plan to continue their support of JFL. The group has pledged to purchase five defibrillators for the hospital. Attorney Richard Evangelista, JFL acting CEO, thanked them. “We would like to thank Rotary Mid-Isle for their generosity in renovating our ED family room, their assistance to bring the air filtration system online, and the care packages. We look forward to a continued relationship with Rotary Mid-Isle.”
