Yvonne Viola Rogers Dies at 76

Yvonne Viola Rogers Yvonne Viola Rogers, also known as “Rogie,” “Mammy” or “Granny,” of John F. Kennedy Terrace died on Oct. 18. She was 76 years old.

She is survived by her daughters: Sandra Hull, Molenica (Patricia) Grey and Karen Christopher; grandchildren: Leander Grey, Tressetta Hull, Shomari Hull, Keith Edwards Jr., Omari Grey, Nichelle Nation and Belinda Browne; great-grandchildren: Josiah Richardson, Estrella Edwards, Zayden Edwards and Anwar Mohammed; sisters: Edris Phillips, Barbara Watson and Gwenneth Hodge; brothers: Stanley Burt, Otney Evans Sr., John Watson and Rohan Watson Sr.; and nieces: Heather Newton, Valmar Willingham, Averil Rose, Denise Ingram, Avonelle Rogers, Cherene Watson, Jecholiah Evans and Aryanna Watson.

She is also survived by nephews: Lester Rose, James Ross Jr., Jermaine Ross, Alexis Rogers, Rohan Watson Jr., Roshawn Watson, Otney Evans Jr. and Jamaley Evans; great nieces: Jerian, Jouleen, Velma, Diandra, Daisha, Jazmin, Leona, Deanna, Jayonah, Je’nya, Kaiya, Mackensie, Mackayla, Dorain and Coreen; great nephews: Quinton, Javon, Leo, Deanté, Elijah, Otney III, Kyrie and Kajun; aunt, Georgina Nico; sons-in-law: Eustace Hull and Viceroy Grey; granddaughters-in-law: Anja-Marie Grey and Sadiqa Hull; and godchildren: Annette, Tyshelle, Kimori, Massiah Richards and Shalaya Galloway.

Other survivors include special friends: Desmond Frederick, Ruth Barton and family, Leova Harris and family, Anne, Ernie Liburd and family, Jacinth, Ms. Dorothy, Cherene Williams, Joseph Laforce Jr., Claudette Issac, Hyacinth Williams and family, Kimeshaia Garvey, Vincent Calvert, Alicia “Chucky” Hansen, Catherine James, Dawne Osbourne, JFK Community and staff and the Legislature staff; cousins and other relatives: Albert Roach and family, Sheila Johnson and family; as well as other relatives and friends too numerous to mention.

A viewing will take place at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 4, at St. John’s Anglican Church. Interment will be at Kingshill Cemetery.
