Bureau of Corrections Invites Public to Hear About Jail, Judicial System

The public is invited to a town hall meeting about the U.S. Virgin Islands Bureau of Corrections and the local justice system in the St. Thomas and St. Croix Districts and the local justice system. The town hall will begin after the National Institute of Corrections finishes its presentation of a jail and justice system assessment.

The accumulated information results in an objective assessment of the Bureau of Corrections’ needs as well as observations about the local criminal justice system that affect the jail population and opportunities for improvement of the criminal justice system.

St. Thomas: from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 26, at the Charles Wesley Turnbull Regional Public Library located at 4607 Tutu Park Mall.

St. Croix: from 1-4:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 28, at the Virgin Islands Cardiac Center located at the Juan F. Luis Hospital and Medical Center.

This assessment will help to give everyone an idea of where the system and facilities stand when compared to industry standards and best practices.

The Bureau of Corrections encourages the entire community to attend these important town hall meetings.
