Suspect Charged with Second-Degree Assault, Domestic Violence

Atnelle Harris, 23, was arrested Tuesday morning and charged with domestic violence against his girlfriend, with whom he lives, according to the V.I. Police Department.

At about 9:40 p.m. Monday officers were dispatched by the 911 emergency call center to investigate a report of an assault that had occurred at the Louis E. Brown Villas housing community. On the scene officers met with the victim, who said she got into an argument with her boyfriend after she had declined his request to use her vehicle.

The woman, whose name was not released by police, told police her boyfriend pushed her against the wall, grabbed her around the neck and began choking her until she couldn’t breathe. The suspect then left the apartment and came back, according to the report. Another argument ensued in the bedroom and the suspect started choking her again, she told police.

The forensic unit processed the scene and photographed visible red marks to her throat area.

Harris was arrested and charged with second-degree assault/domestic violence. He was taken to the Golden Grove Detention Center until his advice of rights hearing.
