Police Car Shot in Christiansted

A police car responding to a reported assault in Christiansted was fired on and struck by one bullet Monday night, the V.I. Police Department reported.

According to police, a unit was dispatched at 9:45 p.m. to a report of an assault Monday at Church Apartments in Christiansted. The responding officer said he was just about to leave the scene at 10:52 pm when he heard three shots discharged.

The officer notified 911 and supporting units arrived to check the surrounding area for any suspects, witnesses or evidence. The officer discovered a bullet hole in the police unit he was operating.

The Criminal Investigation Bureau is looking into the case and urged anyone with information to call 340-778-2211 or 340-712 6106, or the anonymous tip service Crimestoppers VI at 1-800-222-8477.
