Man Injured in Machete Attack

A man was injured by a machete in a physical disturbance Tuesday evening in Estate Mon Bijou, in the vicinity of the WIR variety store, the V.I. Police Department reported.

According to police, officers were dispatched at 7:37 p.m. after 911 received a report of a disturbance. At the scene, an unknown man told the officers the victim was being driven to the Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital in a private vehicle. Witnesses also told police the suspected assailant, identity unknown, had left the scene in an unknown make and model vehicle.

Officers traveled to the hospital to interview the victim, but he was unable to provide the officers with a statement due to his medical condition. The victim, whose name was withheld by police, had sustained a puncture wound to his left upper abdomen and injuries to his left pinky finger and left ring finger.

The case is still under investigation by the Criminal Investigations Bureau and police urged anyone with information to call 340-778-2211 or 340-712-6036, or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers VI, at 1-800-222-8477.
