A St. Croix man was killed Monday morning when his vehicle left the Melvin Evans Highway and crashed, the V.I. Police Department said.
Police identified the victim as 29-year-old Roberto Rivera of Estate Profit. He was declared dead at the Gov. Juan F. Luis Memorial Hospital.
According to police, Rivera was traveling from west to east on the Melvin H. Evans Highway in the vicinity of the Air National Guard and the Patrick Sweeney entrance when his vehicle veered to the left lane and collided with a road sign and guard railing.
The 911 center received a call about the accident at 6:15 a.m. Monday.
Rivera was transported to the hospital. The doctor on duty pronounced him dead at 8:58 a.m.
