Body Found in Abandoned House

The body of a black male was found Thursday in an abandoned house in Estate Whim, the V.I. Police Department reported, but investigators were not immediately able to determine if the death was due to foul play or natural causes.

According to police, at about noon Thursday officers were dispatched by the 911 call center to investigate a suspicious foul odor at an abandoned house in Estate Whim in Frederiksted, where a black male vagrant had been squatting. Upon arrival, officers talked to a resident who said he passed by the property, smelled a foul odor, went inside the abandon property and discovered a body.

Officers found the body lying on a mattress. The forensic team processed the scene and Justice Department agents transported the body to the Juan F. Luis Hospital to be pronounced dead.

The police news release said investigators were unable to determine whether or not foul play was involved. This case has been referred to the Criminal Investigation Bureau for further determination.
