Man Wanted for St. Thomas Murder Arrested After Being Shot in BVI

A man wanted on a homicide warrant on St. Thomas, who fled to the British Virgin Islands, was arrested Monday when he arrived back on St. Thomas for treatment of injuries sustained in a shooting on Tortola, the V.I. Police Department reported.

According to the police, Tahira Charles, 32, was wanted for first-degree murder in a June 25 shooting in the area of the First Stop Gas Station in Estate Thomas.

At approximately 11:03 p.m., police responding to a "shots fired" report found an unresponsive African American male who appeared to have been shot multiple times. The victim, identified as 22-year-old Caseam Daniel, died of his injuries.

Police said Charles "continued his streak of violence after arriving in the BVI." The report said he was "involved" in the Tortola shooting, without offering any details.

Charles was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. Bail had not been determined as of Tuesday morning. He was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advice of rights hearing.

Charles was arrested by officers from the Homicide Task Force and Criminal Investigation Bureau.
