GVI Launches Open Budget Website, a First Step in Transparency

The Government of the Virgin Islands (GVI) has launched its Open Budget Web site, a project in progress that will allow the Mapp/Potter administration’s vision of improving government transparency. The new Web site section of the U.S.V.I. Government Transparency Portal is now live and accessible to the public. The site, www.budget.vi.gov, represents phase one in the roll out of a transparency portal, which is intended to improve citizen access to information.
This initiative is a collaborative effort that includes Chief of Staff Randolph Knight, Director of Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Nellon Bowry, Commissioner of Finance Valdamier Collens, Attorney General Claude Walker and BIT Director Reuben Molloy. The Transparency Portal Open Budget Web site includes agency budget information for fiscal years 2013 through 2016. Also available on the site is the proposed fiscal year 2017 budget available as it goes through the legislative approval process. Molloy has created a training video that will be available until June 30.
The core members of the GVI implementation team responsible for the successful implementation of the Web site are OMB Deputy Director Jenifer C. O’Neal, Finance Executive Assistant Commissioner Clarina Modeste-Elliott, OMB Associate Director Jackwrel Wallace, and Project Manager Molloy.
For more information regarding the Open Budget site, contact Jackwrel Wallace at OMB via e-mail or by calling 774-0750.
