Delroy Antonio Bates Dies

Delroy Antonio Bates Delroy Antonio Bates, also known as "Tony," died on Feb. 29.
He was preceded in death by his father, Roy D. Bates; great-grandparents: Hippolyte and Jane Brunstorff; grandfather, Rupert R. Abramson; grandmother, Elfreda Walcott Petersen; great aunts: Venerita Bastian and Antilina Peters; great uncles: Valero and O’Neal Brunstorff; aunt, Joyce Bates; uncles: Raymond Bates and Selvin Gautier; and cousins: Lorna Bates-White and LeRoy Bastian.
He is survived by his mother, Wilma Alicia Abramson; daughters: Shaleema, Delicia and Delita Bates; son, Delroy A. Bates Jr.; sisters: La-Verne Y. (Tootsie) Bates, Nathania M. Bates Esq., Leandra A. Bates and Delta McIntosh; brother, LeRoy D. Bates; grandmother, Lenoda M. Brunstorff-Lynch; honorary grandmother, Ann E. Abramson; grandchildren: Deroy Antonio Bates and Shaleena Kailey Clercent; aunts: Edna I. Abramson, Sharon and Rhea Petersen, Florentina Bates, Mary Bates-Jones and Kathleen Bates-Mann; uncles: Rupert R. (Rudy) Abramson, Elroy and Dennis Bates, and Lloyd Ferdinand; nieces: Le Miah A. and Kimarah Bates, and Ann-Marie, Michelle and Kristine Edney; and nephews: Shurne L. Horton, Michael and Jordan Bates, and Orsel Edney III.
He is also survived by cousins: Suzzanne, Rhea, Raymond, Randolph and Raina Abramson, James A. (Bobo), Elroy A. (Bebe) and Coretta M. Bates and their children, and Dean, Rudi, Raymond Jr., Diane, Colene, and Renea Bates and their children, and Allison Bates-Farrell and family, Reshema, Lloyda, Lloyd Jr., Ferdinand and their children, Lariel E. Gerard, Lorraine A. Sobratti, Beverly Williams,Wayne Brunstorff, Shermaine and Mario Peters and their children, Esterlina McDuffie King, Robert McDuffie and his children, Lorraine G. Wenner, Angelita, Luis, Clarence and George Gautier, Sandra Champion and their children, Rita and Aubrey and Debra Brunstorff and their children, Sandra, Diane, Debbie Cartier and their children, Debbie Guadeloupe, Laurel and Linda Lawrence and their children. Debbie Christopher and her children, former Adjutant Gen. Renaldo and Diane Rivera and family, Beverly Romney and family, and Kurt Walcott and family.

Novelle E. Francis Jr. and family, the Graham family, the Petersen family, the Hewitt family, Leona Samuel and family, Myrtle Green, Beryl Doward, Caprice and Bernetta Abramson, Melvin A. Petersen, Marc Abramson, Rick Mullgrav and family, Lorriane Barnes, Iris Nesbitt and family, Myra Hendricks, Jean Smalls, Ellington Maynard, the Hansen family, the Adams-Encarnacion family, Anna Hall and family.
Other survivors include special friends: Rafael Peters, Abraham Solomon, Esperanza Francis, Gloria David, Darwin John, Fraline (Josie) Moorehead, James, Sylvester, Arleen O’Reilly of Harbor View, Roseann Washington and family, Jane Meyers and family, Marilyn Felix, Cecilia Simmonds and family, Dianne Bryan and family, Lester and Grace Henry, Atneil Joseph, Agusto Sylvester, Hubert (Bookie) Charles, Craig Lloyd, Margaret and Jose; as well as other relatives and friends.
A viewing will take place at 10 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. on his birthday, Tuesday, March 22, at the Lord God of Saboath Lutheran Church, in downtown Christiansted. Interment will be at Christiansted Cemetery.
The family requests that people wear what they choose to celebrate Delroy’s (Tony’s) service.
