An argument that resulted in gunfire Tuesday night left a man bleeding to death in Market Street, the V.I. Police Department reported.
It was the third homicide on St. Croix since the first of the year, the 10th in the territory.
The victim was identified as 30-year-old Conrad Phipps of Concordia.
According to the police, the 911 center received a call at about 9:35 p.m. Tuesday reporting gunfire discharged in the area of Market Street. A second call moments later reported that someone had been shot in the vicinity of El Ricon Latino Bar and Restaurant in Frederiksted.
Responding officers and detectives came in contact with the victim lying in the gutter just south of the restaurant, who’d sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medical technicians transported the victim to the Juan Luis Hospital Emergency Room where he later succumbed to his injuries.
According to the preliminary investigation, Phipps had gotten into an argument and was shot by an unknown suspect.
