Tishawn Samuel, a 24-year-old resident of the Walter IM Hodge Pavilion Housing Community, was shot and killed Thursday night in Estate Camp Rico, according to the V.I. Police Department.
It was the first homicide on St. Croix since the beginning of the year, the fourth in the territory.
According to the police report, officers were alerted to a report of gunfire in Estate Campo Rico at 9:57 p.m. Thursday. Officers responding to an area within the estate called "The Turf" found the body of a black male, riddled with multiple gunshot wounds, lying on the ground.
Emergency medical technicians were summoned to the scene, examined the body and found no signs of life. The body was later identified as Samuel.
The homicide is under investigation and police asked anyone with information to phone the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 340-712-6024 or 340-712-6037, the 911 emergency call center, or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477.
