The Rules and Judiciary Committee gave a preliminary thumbs-up to three nominees Thursday, continuing action on a series of Gov. Kenneth Mapp’s recent nominees to various boards and commissions.
Their nominations now go for a final up-down vote before the full Legislature.
The committee voted to send on Theresa Frorup-Alie to serve on the Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital governing board. Frorup-Alie, a Virgin Islands native, is a graduate of the St. Croix Central High School, class of 1985, a graduate of the University of the Virgin Islands with a bachelor’s degree in business administration with concentrations in accounting and management, and a master’s degree in business administration, all received in 1988, 1989 and 1999 respectively. She is an accountant, running her own bookkeeping and tax consultation service.
Frorup-Alie worked for the V.I. Housing Finance Authority as a project manager from 1991 to 1999.
The committee approved Secundino Roman-Cruz to represent St. Croix on the V.I. Taxicab Commission. A native of Puerto Rico, Roman-Cruz’s family moved to St. Croix in 1955. He has lived in Frederiksted since 1963.
An Army veteran, Roman-Cruz left the service with the rank of second lieutenant in 1994. He is a graduate of the National FBI Academy and served on the V.I. Police Department until his retirement in 1999.
He has a certificate from American Legion College in Indianapolis from 2015 and has been operations manager at the Divi Carina Bay Casino since 2000.
The Rules Committee also approved Kurt Walcott to represent St. Croix on the Real Estate Commission.
Walcott was born and raised on St. Croix. He worked for the V.I. government for more than 20 years. He was warden for the Bureau of Corrections. He has also been in real estate for almost 30 years.
Walcott has been a broker and owner of Walcott Real Estate since January of 2015. He worked for Sea Glass St. Croix from 2010 to 2014. He has been a broker for five years.
All three nominations were approved unanimously.
