Random Shooting Injures Man

A man walking in the Walter I.M. Hodge Housing Community in Frederiksted was injured by gunfire early Sunday, the V.I. Police reported.

According to the VIPD, officers were dispatched to the housing community at 3:43 a.m. Sunday to investigate the report of a gunshot victim.

The officers met with the victim, a 25-year-old man whose name was not released by police. He told the officers he’d been walking to his residence when the sound of gunfire rang out and he realized that he’d been shot.

The victim told officers he didn’t see anyone in the immediate vicinity at the time of the incident and had no idea as to who may have discharged the gunfire.

The victim sustained a non-life threatening wound to his calf and was transported to the Juan F. Luis Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Police asked anyone with information concerning the incident to call 911 or contact the anonymous tip service, CrimeStoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477.
