Homeowner Foils Robbery

A homeowner in Estate Mt. Pleasant, reacting to an "unusual noise"Wednesday, confronted a home-invasion burglar and sent him running, according to the V.I. Police Department.

The name of the resident was not released by police.

According to the VIPD, the 911 emergency call center received a call about the incident at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Officers responding to the scene met with the owner of the residence, who told them he’d been in the restroom when he heard an unusual noise. He stepped out of the room to investigate the noise and came face to face with a Hispanic male, wearing camouflage, with a mask covering his face and armed with a gun.

The intruder demanded money.

A struggle ensued and according to police the victim was able to take possession of the suspect’s gun. The victim fired a shot at the suspect, who then fled the scene on foot. The homeowner was left unscathed.

Police asked anyone with information on the incident to phone 911 or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477.
