Man Critically Injured in Ambush

A man driving home from church at midday Sunday was critically injured after he was caught in an ambush, the V.I. Police Department reported.

The police did not identify victim of the shooting, which took place at about noon Sunday in Estate LaGrange.

According to police, at 12:08 p.m. the 911 emergency call center received a report of gunfire LaGrange.

Responding officers arrived at the location and discovered a vehicle that had crashed into a tree. According to the police report, the driver of the vehicle was ambushed by someone in another vehicle, who shot at him while he was driving south towards Concordia Road.

The victim attempted to continue driving, but lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a tree. He had sustained a gunshot wound, police said, and was transported to the Juan F. Luis Hospital by ambulance. The victim, a 31-year-old black male, was listed in critical condition.

Officers searching the scene discovered numerous spent shell casings.
