A man stopped on the roadside in William’s Delight was injured in a drive-by shooting Friday afternoon, the V.I. Police Department reported.
At 1:51 p.m. Friday, the 911 emergency call center received a report of gunfire in Estate William’s Delight, according to police. Officers responding to the scene found several spent shell casings, but were unable to locate a victim.
Meanwhile, staff from the Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital contacted 911 and reported that a young man seeking treatment for a gunshot wound had arrived at the facility by a private vehicle.
Officers traveled to the medical facility and met with the 24-year-old victim, whose name was not released by police.
The victim told officers that he was riding his motor scooter in the Estate William’s Delight area when the scooter developed difficulties. As he attempted to repair it, a car drove by and gunfire was discharged from the moving vehicle.
The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the hand. He told officers he was unable to identify who shot at him or the type of vehicle that the shooter was in.
