Two adults and two minors were arrested Thursday afternoon in connection with the murder of 73-year-old Augustus Bannis, the V.I. Police Department announced.
Bannis had been the victim of a carjacking incident and assault that occurred in Estate Grove Place on Aug. 17, which left him unconscious and hospitalized for two months. He was transferred to the Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami and succumbed to his injuries Oct. 19.
Jahmal Rivera, 29, of Estate Grove Place, was arrested at 4 p.m. Thursday. Dumaray Isles, 23, of Estate Upper Love, was taken into custody at 4:30 p.m.. Both were charged with first-degree murder, first-degree robbery and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. No bail was established for either, and both men were remanded to the Bureau of Corrections, pending their advise of rights hearing.
The two male minors, both 17 years old, were charged with first-degree murder and remanded to the Youth Rehabilitation Center.
