Kamoui Francis, 25, pleaded guilty in District Court Friday on St. Croix to transmission of a threat to injure, U.S. Attorney Ronald W. Sharpe announced.
According to the plea agreement filed with the court, on Jan. 28, 2014, a witness testifying in a Superior Court murder case on St. Croix received two threatening messages. The threats were sent from a mobile device to a Facebook account, and warned that if any of the defendants were found guilty, the witness and members of the witness’ family would be killed.
As part of the investigation of the case, on Feb. 5, 2014, Bureau of Corrections officers searched the Golden Grove Adult Correctional Facility cell in which Francis was the sole occupant. During the search, Francis was found in possession of the cellphone from which the threats were made.
Francis faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. A sentencing date has been set for Feb. 10.
This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Virgin Islands Bureau of Corrections. It is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Rhonda Williams-Henry.
