Early Morning Homicide in Frederiksted

A man was shot to death early Saturday in Estate Prince’s Quarters – the Mt. Pleasant-West subdivision – below the St. Joseph Catholic High School, the V.I. Police Department reported.

It was the 27th homicide in the territory since the beginning of the year, the 11th on St. Croix. The victim’s identity had not been released by Saturday afternoon pending notification of next of kin.

According to the police, at 5:51 a.m. Saturday the 911 emergency center notified officers of a man down. The caller who made the report also indicated that moments before the body was discovered, several shots were fired in the vicinity.

Officers and an ambulance were dispatched to the area, where they found a middle aged black man lying along the roadside just off of the Queen Mary Highway (Centerline Road) with gunshot wounds to his body. The man appeared to be lifeless, police said. The emergency medical technicians examined the individual and found no signs of life.

Police asked anyone with information about the incident to contact the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 340-712-6024, St. Croix Chief of Police Arthur Hector Sr. at 340-712-6005, or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.crimestoppersusvi.org.
