Walter Durant Sr. Dies at 81

Walter Durant Sr. Walter Durant Sr. of Estate Work & Rest, formerly of Estate Hannah’s Rest, died on Sept. 2 at his residence. He was 81 years old.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Maria Prince Durant and father, Joseph Durant.
He is survived by his companion, Magnolia Simpson; sons: Walter E. Durant Sr., Marvin Durant and Michael K. Durant; grandchildren: Craig E. Durant and Kimberly E. Durant; sister, Asalita Brown; and nieces: Anna Petersen, Harriet Durant-Lewit, Lynette Durant-Stewart, MD, Tricia Durant-Magloire, Cheryl Meadows, Louise Sebastian, Monica Sebastian, Debra Sebastian-McClean, Lena Sebastian, Carol Brown, Armel Bailey, Agatha Canton, Juanita Hendricks, Allyson Parson, Maria Hendricks, Margie Parson, Renee Canton, Aissa and Vanessa Thompson, Sharon and Celeste Durant, Leona Richardson and Ada Durant.
He is also survived by nephews: Emile Durant Jr., Kevin Durant, Ray Bailey, Kenneth Brown, Mark Bailey, Sonny Sebastian, Lydie Bailey, Neil Canton, Raymond Canton, Mario Canton, Mario Thompson and Roland Richardson; sister-in-law, Sylvia Durant; and special friends: Richard Schrader Sr. and family, Hulda Durant, Teddy Brow and family, Emile Cornelius and family, Everette Oliver and family, Robert McIntosh and family, Claire Roker and family, the Ross family, the horse owners at the Randall Doc James Racetrack, co-workers at the Richmond Post Office and the taxi drivers at Rohlsen Airport.
Other survivors include cousins and other relatives; Ursula Petersen and family, Margaret Thompson and family, Emile Hansen and family, Hugo Penn and family, the Osborne family, the James family, the Ross family, Marilyn Rodgers and family, and the Hendricks family; as well as other friends and relatives too numerous to mention. Special thanks to the staff at Juan Luis Hospital, Sea View Nursing Home, La Paz Hospice Inc., and caregivers Terry Ramsey and Latoya Edwards.
A viewing will take place at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 16, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church. Interment will be at Kingshill Cemetery Veteran Section.
