Property owners can now pay their property tax bills online for all years, Lt. Gov. Osbert Potter announced Wednesday.
Customers interested in paying their property tax bills online can go to https://propertytax.vi.gov/ to do so. Payment plan payments must still be made offline through the Office of the Lieutenant Governor.
The Office of the Lieutenant Governor is encouraging owners to use the online system, outlining its advantages in a statement saying it is similar to making a purchase online and online payment is free and secure.
A receipt confirmation is emailed to the customer. Customers can also view and print a detailed receipt from propertytax.vi.gov immediately after payment.
Customers can view details about an individual account, including parcel details, tax credits and tax credit expirations.
Payments can be made at any time 24 hours a day from anywhere in the world.
Property owners can ensure that a payment is received before a discount expires without waiting in lines or worrying about getting a payment lost in the mail.
In most cases, online payment is instant. As soon as a payment has been successfully processed, customers see the account balance change from the parcel search.
Not all property owners should use the system. If the customer has an escrow account with a local bank, they should allow the bank to make the payment for them. Customers with mortgages and escrow accounts with banks will still benefit from the discount when the payment is received from the bank by the Office of the Lieutenant Governor, the statement said.
Customers can make full online payments on all accounts and parcels that are past due and on which partial payments have yet to be made. Customers can use the search function to view past account balances due, if any.
